When was tomyris born

Protecting the nomads retreating back to the steppes, the Massagetae tried not to get involved in serious clashes, dropping back off the Persian army acting on the offensive.

This was the tactic of luring the enemy into the steppe. As usually after clashes, the Massagetae successfully shook off the pursuer on their fast horses. Thus, the Persians came to the Jaxartes. Here, Cyrus again decided to use a trick. He ordered to set a camp and to poison all the wounded and sick soldiers, ambushing with his good troops near the river. The Massagetae led by the son of Tomyris Spargapises attacked the camp at night, but found no resistance and decided that the Persians fled.

Celebrating the victory, they drank the poisoned wine left by the Persians. When most of the Massagetae squad fell asleep, the Persians attacked and massacred almost the entire detachment. Son of Tomyris was captured.

As soon as Tomyris learnt of her son's death, she decided to attack the Persians. In the steppe was a battle in which Massagetae unleashed all its might and fury on the Persian army.

Several years earlier, Cyrus had invaded the Amyrgians and took their king prisoner — thus pissing off the Amyrgian queen, Sparethra. Why, I am unsure — possibly because, need to conquer aside, Cyrus had a pretty good empire going, with emphasis on scholarship and human rights. He eventually changed his mind, and Croesus fell in line behind Cyrus, going on to give him terrible advice.

The background is the Araxes Aras river, the actual place where Cyrus crossed into Massagetae territory. You can see his bridge and towers burning on the right side of the image. The cup Tomyris is holding is a skull cup — an actual cup made in part from the top of a human skull. The peoples of her tribe the Scythians, of whom the Massagetae were an offshoot regularly used the things. Tomyris did not have much family so her son received much of her adoration and attention.

Though she did favor her son, most of the choices she made were for the nation. Tomyris was also very witty,When King Cyrus proposed to her, she was able to deduce that it was just so Cyrus gain control over Massagetae. He went to war with Massagetae. Most of her kingdom regarded her as very clever for her strategies.

Tomyris had endless courage. She led her army fearlessly into war against the Persians. Even knowing she might lose her land, she fought bravely and in the end beat her enemy.

Tomyris is best known as the Queen who killed the King of Persia Cyrus.
